Salute to the Champions
by Harvey Griffin
Harvey Griffin’s Poem
Another checkers game lover,
shares his thoughts on this great game of checkers.
The mantle of checkers has passed,
Water in the brook still flows.
Alex and Ron,
two men of honor,
Forever friendly foes.
Ron wore his mantle with pride;
He traveled far to win his fame.
From Barbados of the sea
He excelled at his chosen game.
Alex came to our great shores
To chase his hopes and dreams.
His mastery of checkers shined bright;
He knew its science and schemes.
Checker titles come and go;
Few reach the heights of Alex,
In the ages old game,
Checkers, so simple, so complex.
Checkers poem, Salute to
the Champions, by checkers champion Harvey Griffin.
