Another checker lover,
Harvey Griffin,
shares his thoughts on this great game:

The Conspiracy

I sat quietly at the board,
Playing a familiar line.

Sister Kat sat looking on,
Smiling, that precocious feline.

Harve, play me a game, she purred.
Why, I bragged, you wouldn’t get a king.
Don’t be a ”fraidy cat”, she meowed.
Let’s get on with the thing.

I set the board up for play.
She insisted on getting first move,
11-15, 23-19, 8-11, 26-23, 4-8, 30-26.
Ha! The play was right down my groove.

Then Sister Kat made a blunder.
9-13 was a big mistake.
My move at once was 19-16.
This “ball of fur” was a piece of cake.

A mouse ran across the board.
Sister Kat chased him in hot pursuit.
Checkers flew every which way.
That pampered feline didn’t give a hoot.

Before the mouse disappeared,
I saw him give a thumbs-up sign.
The sneaks had it planned all the while.
What a conniving---brilliant design.
