Checkers Champions of Northern Africa
Checkers game players from Northern Africa.
History states that the roots of the checkers/draughts game originated
in Northern Africa hundreds of years ago. Since that time, variations of this
game have been played throughout the continent by children and adults alike.
Often, these checkers variants would be played in the center square amongst a
handful of opponents eager for the challenge.
The modern day checkers game arena has not solely
been confined to tournaments and championships in
either North America or Europe, but has spread across
the world to encompass South America, northern Africa,
and Asia. There is a good possibility that the checkers
game is more widely played by a larger populace in
the USA, Canada, and Europe than in other locations
worldwide, but Western Africa has seen a fair number
of qualified and skilled checkers players join the
International arena.
Research clearly indicates that checkers players of
northern African ancestry have maintained a formidable
presence in the game through the development of many
Masters and Grandmasters in French-speaking Africa.
