Checkers Around the World Invented Checkers Variants
Saving Private Checkers (2003)
Invisible City Productions created a Checkers game with “an explosive twist” for two players. This variant was a “kind of like a cross between normal checkers and the D-Day invasion....”, according to a write-up about the game. The game Saving Private Checkers objective was two fold because there were two goals: to get as many of your checkers to the other side of the board and back as possible and to capture as many of your opponent's pieces as possible. Requirements for the game play were the checkers from a standard checkers set and a Poker set. The play was a lot like traditional checkers, except that the players were trying to get their checkers to the other side of the board and back without either being captured or blown to pieces. The cards from the poker deck served as 'live squares' in that each opponent could be blown away when either one entered a square. Once again a new theme had been adapted to the ‘tried and true checkers’ rules of a classic checkers game. This saving private checkers game offered different options to the gamer within the game play. |
