Checkers Around the World Invented Checkers Variants
Fascination Checkers Game
by Remco (1962)

The game board for Fascination Checkers consisted
of a 10 x 10 square, with four 4 x 4 areas
in the corners delineated in a black and white
checkerboard pattern. The remaining cross-shaped
area was a neutral zone. In the beginning,
the black and white squares were filled with
the black and white game pieces. The player
with the Black pieces made the first move.
A player captured the opponent's pieces by
jumping horizontally or vertically over them
only. Multiple jumps were possible as in regular
Checkers. Each jump captured the jumped piece.
When a player was unable to move, the other
player kept going until the opponent could
move again. The fascination checkers game ended
when no further moves were possible by either
player. The player with the most pieces left
won the checkers game. Fascination Checkers
took the basic game principles of Checkers,
adapted them to a different game board, and
created yet another interesting variant with
a similar theme. K. Franklin, Zillions of Games,
implemented a new variant of Fascination Checkers
game in 2006 using the following game board:

The description of the current game is listed
in the following manner:
“Capture the
most opponent checkers by jumping over them.
These checkers can jump orthogonally over Enemy
Pieces Only. Jumping over a piece captures
it. Multiple Captures are optional. When no
move is possible, play continues to the other
player (forced pass). Fascination checkers
games generally end when a mutual stalemate
is reached. The smaller, all-direction, 9x9
compressed variant is a new adaptation.”
